Welcome to the

Introducing the Toughbook® 55

fu·ture-proof: adjective          (of a product) unlikely to become obsolete.

The latest addition to Panasonic's Toughbook® line, Toughbook® 55 is a rather unique semi-rugged laptop. Its extensibility is unparalleled in its class. The overall concept is to have a completely customizable computer.  There are 3 different expansion areas of the laptop where 'plug n play' modules can be purchased to suit individual needs. There are several xPAK options for each expansion area. Making it easy to swap out key components, such as smart card readers, finger print scanners, or even second batteries.

Yes, you heard it right, 2nd batteries. This is possible by purchasing the xPAK expansion pack that provides an optional second battery. Giving this laptop up to a 40-hour battery life with just the switch of a quick release lever and a swap of a module. It's impressive to know the battery will last for those long 12-hour shifts some officers are putting in.

"The Toughbook 55 has the ability to work all day on a fully charged battery, which is among the most critical needs for users out in the field. Plus they can also ‘hot-swap’ an optional second battery without powering down or interruptions," - Anthony Mungiello, Panasonic Product Manager

Aside from the modular design, this 14-inch laptop is the thinnest, and at 5-lbs, is the lightest in its class. There is an optional ultra-bright screen, which is useful during high sunlight situations. All of those perks plus it still has the durability Toughbooks® are known for. The 55 can withstand 3-foot drops, spills, and extreme weather, making it a great option for first responders.

There are even more customizations available when it comes to standard hardware you'd expect from your laptop.  Some factory options include cameras, mics, bluetooth capabilities, 4G LTE on a band 14 sim card, and dual pass-through antenna capabilities.

Let's Get Geeky

The 55's processor is an Intel Core i5-8365U CPU, with the option to upgrade to a Core i7-8665. Both chip options include Intel vPro,  it's used to remotely update the laptop. TPM v2.0 remote management technology also comes standard, to keep your data safe. You can upgrade the 55's memory from the default 8GB up to 64GB. Storage options start at 512GB with an option for 1TB. Coming default with each Toughbook® 55 is:

  • USB 3.0 ports
  • 1 USB-C port (optional Power Delivery)
  • HDMI
  • A microSDXC memory reader
  • 1Gbps Ethernet port
